Angel Garcia was born in the Philippine Islands. His family moved to San Pedro California when he was eight years old. Angel grew up in San Pedro and attended his early school years there. Upon graduating from San Pedro High school, Angel attended Chouinard Art Institute majoring in drawing and painting. After one year at Chouinard, he decided to join the United States Navy to see the world. Angel‘s military service concluded in1966. He continued his art education at California State University Long Beach where he obtained his Bachelors of Arts degree.
Angel was involved with the San Pedro Art Association as president in 1990. He was also a member of Torrance, Palos Verdes and Carson Art Association(s), interacting with artist, exchanging ideas and being inspired by their work. The media, in which Angel is most comfortable with, is oil and watercolor. He is also skillful in acrylics, the fast drying pigment which captivates his imagination when applying with mix media.
His love for the French Impressionist painters such as Paul Cezanne is prevalent in his early oil paintings. The early California impressionist painters that spontaneously captured the beauty of the California coast are also among his favorite era of painters. Angels work is juxtaposed to this style of painting. His paintings are owned by prominent collectors throughout the United States and abroad.
Angel has also displayed his talent as Plein Air artist in oil and watercolors. His paintings are derived from sketches he does while on Plein Air outings as well as from digital photography, which he uses as a reference for his composition.
Angel has attended outdoor paintings with Henry Fukuhara and Milford Zorn. He is frequently influenced by proficient artists inspiring his soul. Angel still follows that inner voice that tells him to draw and paint in his own unique way.
